Kings County Distillery is New York City’s oldest operating whiskey distillery, the first since prohibition. Founded in 2010, soon after the creation of a New York State Farm Distillery License, Kings County makes hand-crafted moonshine and bourbon out of the 110-year-old Paymaster Building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. We are currently working on rejuvenation of walls and ceilings of their cavernous space. At the moment this project is in many different stages but it’s less about watching paint dry and more about making plaster fall!

We have finally finished our long awaited Collaboration with Illustrator/Art Director Keren Richter who in the past has done work for Alexis Bitar, Refinery 29, Microsoft, and Nylon just to name a few. After months of scheduling and editing the design we were finally able to set up shop in OCLA (Opening Ceremony as it’s called in cooler circles) to get painting! Opening Ceremony is a multifaceted environment comprised of retail spaces, showroom, and gallery that establishes a new international creative forum worldwide. OC brings together emerging American talent with both young and established designers and artists from abroad. Each year, the unique commercial and cultural character of a visiting city is represented at OC by capturing the essence of the consumer experience. We began work by cleaning up existing problem areas then, mapping out the design. The easy part was filling in the blocks with the pre-designed sketches that really showed the hand in their execution. It was really a blast to work with the staff there Special thanks to all who contributed and of course Farrow & Ball who kindly donated the paint.

Bigger and better than than ever, the booth consists of the amazing Wisteria Collection wallpaper and a wonderful decorative painting accent wall installed by Vicki Khuzami and designed by Nick Cope. The show is up through Sunday and is worth checking out! Other stand-out booths at the show are – the brilliant Brooklyn-based designer Patrick Weder Design Inc., Tyler Hays’ and the handmade American furniture of bddw, and the new designers Rich Brilliant Willing.

There is much talk about the new developments popping up along the waterfront in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and we were lucky enough to get a peek at what’s inside. The unit we worked on had tremendous light and a terrace that nearly exceeded the footprint of the apartment itself – there are even plans in the works by the client to make a section of it a green-roof! This time around we tried our hand with Stark Paint at the clients request and we were quite pleased with the overall finish. Our client, a musician, and her husband, have terrific taste in both color and furnishings – the end result being a nice interior with a rustic Scandinavian flavor. Thanks to our new staff photographer, we are getting higher quality images of our exciting projects.

We at Green Painting are so excited about this wonderful brush design for oil-based paints and finishes. The simple wooden handle, stainless ferrule, and china bristles create the perfect tool for brushing out any natural oils; we prefer Allback Paints whenever possible as they are comprised of simply organic linseed oils and raw mineral pigments. Completely non-toxic, these paints outperform alkyd enamels in durability yet contain none of harsh solvents associated with petroleum based paints. To apply these paints properly, it takes a good old fashioned brush and this is what Upstate NY builder Mark Keoppen of Toad Hollow Barn Restoration and his wife Wendy have done in creating this throwback. A beautiful and functional object, however, don’t expect to see them anytime soon at your local hardware store as they are currently sold out nationwide. Keep your eyes peeled for the next round!

Green Painting is proud to announce the completion of a lovely mural on the Upper West Side with celebrated illustrator (and now muralist) Matteo Pericoli. Matteo is best known for his books Manhattan Unfurled and The City Out My Window, both with introductions by Paul Goldberger, the Architectural Critic of the New Yorker Magazine. His work is also on the cover of the current issue of the Paris Review For this project, GP worked with Matteo to prepare the site and surface of a long wall, then our decorative team followed up by taking the digital files of his intended design and projecting them onto a transparency to create a pounce, which is a sort of stencil for Matteo to ultimately copy onto the wall. The latter part of this project took place over several months via Torino, Italy, where Matteo is based. The end result is a lovely representation of the iconic NYC skyline in Matteo’s signature style. Please email for more information on mural and decorative work in this style.

Today the Green Painting team completed a wonderful project for a terrific client in Park Slope. With a baby on the way these new Brooklynites were keen on using a painting contractor that is concerned with VOC’s in paint and the risks related to off-gassing. Green Painting completed three stories worth of detailed painting and plaster work, with accent walls as well. Now that their beautiful lighting arrangement is installed, contemporary artwork is hanging, and iconic furniture by Eames and Knoll are peppered through the space, we can step back and say “Job well done!”

Green Painting was very happy to freshen up the walls of the fantastic eco-friendly boutique called Kaight. Complete with many green designers, such as Samantha Pleet, Mociun, Loomstate, and Bodkin, we were very careful to make sure that all merchandise was carefully protected. We made then quick work of all walls and trim with Farrow&Ball‘s All White (no. 2005) in Modern Emulsion and Estate Eggshell, leaving the place looking lovely for the upcoming busy season. Read more on Kaight in a recent NY Times article here.
